Several sunny days are bery beneficial to my plants. The zucchini and squash are out of control and need to be planted in the ground. I'm working on that. Here are my peppers, the finally came up. I originally put 2 seeds in each little pot, but then they didn't come up. I thought the seeds were old and so I put some new seeds in the same pots. So now we have pepper plants out the yingyang:)
Sean actually found out that building a raised bed was actually cheaper in the long run than trying to fill the buckets that we have, and we could plant more stuff. So yesterday we picked up all the stuff to make it and this is what we have got so far.
Abby was a great help and she sure doesn't mind getting dirty, which she had to do to help.
The pvc pipe is for the chicken wire that we will have to put over the top of the garden. We have a bunch of marauding, pillaging, destructive, violent....deer:) There are 7 that we know of that work on destroying any edible plant within the neighborhood.

Spring has sprung
The grass has "riz,"
Can you guess where my family is?
Yes, if you guessed outside, you'd be correct. Due to the last week of over 70 degree sunny weather, we can't control ourselves. For those of you that wonder at my exageration, the 'burgh doesn't get too many beautiful sunny days like this, So we get real excited when we have more than 2 in a row!
Sean had to finally give the yard the first mow of the season. Half the time he was mowing dirt, but we're working on that. He fixed a large patch last fall, but there is still some bare spots that we are going to try and fix this spring.
And of course, the girls are playing in the dirt. Gotta love some girls that don't mind getting dirty:) The funniest part was when they came in and wondered why they had to take baths. Uh, you're dirty.

Garden progress
If my plants were having a race, the zucchini and yellow squash would definetly win! I probably didn't really need to start them so early, but I figured it wouldn't hurt. This would be why the tomatoes and green peppers need to be started early. They take FOREVER to grow. I planted all of these at the same time, and well, as you can see, the tomatoes are having a hard time keeping up with the squash.

Getting the garden started
The burgh is too darn cold! Well, for early gardening it is, anyway. I wanted to get the green peppers and tomatoes started inside. So on a nice day Abby and I went out on the porch and started planting. I really hate paying for food I can grow in my own backyard, so I'm hoping this works. I put green peppers in EVERYTHING. The last time i tried this I tried to harden them off too soon, and killed them all. not cool. Sean is talking about putting in some raised beds. Maybe if I beg really hard he will actually get it done for me! Ya think?! Here's the finished product. I actually included yellow squash and zucchini in with the peppers and tomatoes, altough I really didn't need to. But I figured it couldn't hurt. I'll be giving some plants away in a few weeks, because we will have too many! :)
